Military Payment Certificates (scrip) were used as currency in France for several years to deter black market activities. Those who were there will remember the overnight changes from one version of scrip to another and then to greenbacks. Series 521 notes were in use from May 25, 1954 through May 27, 1958. The $10 note was the highest denomination issued at that time.
