IN MEMORIAM EVREUX ALUMNI GROUP REUNION COL. JIM BARLOW OCTOBER 27 - 31, 2004 10/31/16 - 3/29/04 NEW ORLEANS, LA
INFORMATION Greetings to all of you! The time has come to make your final plans
to attend the reunion in New Orleans! Many of you have heard that the dates were
for the first week in November. It has been necessary to move it up one week
to the last week in October as shown
above. The reunion dates are a Wednesday through Saturday with departure on Sunday the 31st. The reason for the change is that I originally had
indicated a room requirement to the Hotel based on attendance in 2001 and 2002 which was 85. With last years
attendance in Vegas and interest in the New Orleans Reunion, I asked to increase the number of rooms. Unfortunately, the
Hotel had booked another group for that week in November and they did not have the rooms to accommodate our
needs. Rather than have attendees staying at other Hotels, the best solution was to move to the October dates.
I certainly hope this does not create a problem for anyone. There
are several items and issues that I need to present to you, the first of
which is an Open House at Evreux Air Base, France hosted by the French Air Force. For those of you who are
also members of the 317th Veterans Group you may have already received the info from Bill Lloyd in their
Newsletter. For the rest, enclosed is the information on the open house and how to arrange attendance. If you have any
questions on this, please contact Bill Lloyd at Tel. 703-435-6598 or email LloydwBill@aol.com HOTEL:
The Reunion Hotel is the Historic Pontchartrain, 2031 St. Charles Ave., Zip
70140. It is in the Garden District with easy access to I-10. It is 17 miles from the Airport
and Taxi fare is approximately $21.00. The Hotel does not have an Airport Shuttle Service. The Hotel is 2 miles from
the French Quarter and Trolleys stop directly in front of the Hotel. The Hotel also has complimentary shuttle service
to the French Quarter. The Hotel is offering free parking to our group if you are driving or contemplating renting
a car. For Reservations, call 800-777-6193 or 504-524-0581 or Fax 504-529-1165. Reservations
should be no later than Sept. 15, 2004 and reference the Evreux Alumni Group Reunion in making
reservations. The room cost will be $89.00 a night plus tax. This rate is available 3 days prior to and after the
reunion should you choose to extend your stay. I advise making your reservations as early as possible. More information on
the Hotel is on the back of this page. The info is from 2002 so some changes may have been made. COST;
The registration fee is $ 77.00 per person, and includes Welcoming Package
with name buttons, itinerary, list of attendees. Complete Group Roster & Local
Information; Continental Breakfast on
Thur, Fri, and Sat; Lunch on Thur and Business Meeting; Banquet with Wine on Sat; and
Hospitality Room Wed through Sat. ARRANGEMENTS: Since I am not acquainted with New Orleans, I contacted a Reunion
Service called "The Reunion Brat" and they have coordinated all arrangements. So
far, they have done a very nice job for us. Some of the "extras" they have done includes obtaining free
parking, obtaining a discount at the D-Day Museum and arranging a comprehensive optional tour for Friday. The Friday tour,
which is available at $ 40.00 per person, is an approximate 6 hour tour which includes a bus tour of New Orleans
attractions (3 Hours) and a Mississippi Riverboat cruise aboard the "Natchez" which includes lunch.
I encourage you to participate in this tour since it gives us an opportunity to take in as much of New Orleans as possible
in a relatively short time. Tour tickets should be ordered with registration to allow scheduling of adequate
transportation. The D-Day Museum is not included in the tour, and to obtain the reduced rate on tickets they must be
purchased in advance with registration. The museum is 1/2 Mile from the Hotel and tickets may be used anytime during the
reunion. Transportation via streetcar from the Hotel to within I block of the museum. BUSINESS MEETING: Some of the items for consideration are:
Establishing a Board of Directors; Reunion Frequency; Next Reunion Site; Continued use of a Reunion Service;
Mailing of.complete roster to all 550 members; New Secretary to replace Norbert
Mueller; Other items introduced from the floor. |
