I am not a subscriber to the paper, but I study it eagerly at my brother's-in-law Anton Mangold and, as soon as I have a permanent home, will subscribe to the paper too.

Perhaps one or the other reader, or the editors himself, tell me where my cousin Anton Jochim is living. As far as I know, he is somewhere in Canada. (Yes, indeed! His address is Estevan, Sask., Canada.-Ed.) I myself have only recently arrived from Russia and have various matters to share with him.

In conclusion, I also want to lay before the readers a humorous story, specifically, how a person can become his own grandfather.

A 50-year-old widower and his son went looking for a wife. The father married the 20-year-old daughter of a widow and his son married the widow herself. Of course, something like that does not happen very often. But so many tangled relationships arise every time that happens that it sets one's head to spinning when he thinks about it. I recall a similar case, in which someone even became his own grandfather. Many an astonished reader will now ask, "His own grandfather? How in the world did that happen?" Yes, it is really a tricky story, but let's let the man to whom this happened tell the story himself:

"I became acquainted with a widow who lived in the same house with her daughter. I married the widow. My father, who frequently had the opportunity of seeing my stepdaughter, fell in love with her and married her. With that, my wife became the mother-in-law of her father-in-law and my stepdaughter became my stepmother and I became my step-daughter's stepfather, and was changed into her step-son! My step-mother, the daughter of my wife, had a son and as a result I had a brother, for he is the son of my father and my stepmother, but, since he is, at the same time, the son of our step-daughter, my wife became his grandmother, and I became the grandfather of my step-brother!-And now, my wife and I had a son, and now my stepmother is the step-sister of my son, but at the same time she is also her grandmother, because he is the son of her step-son. My father is the brother-in-law of my child, since the sister of my child is his wife. I am the brother of my own son, who is the child of my grandmother. I am the brother-in- law of my mother, and my wife is the aunt of her own son. Her son is the grandson of my father and, since my step-brother is the son of my step-daughter, I am his grandfather and subsequently also my own grandfather!"

(Jawohl. Adressiren Sie: Anton Jochim, Estevan, Sask., Canada.-Red. Staats-Anzeiger.)

Achtungsvoll,
